About Bill Bresnan

Bill Bresnan made a significant entrance as the new head coach of Adelphi University’s women’s golf program, officially appointed to the position on Feb. 14, 2022. Becoming the third head coach in the team’s history marked Bresnan’s debut in the collegiate head coach realm. His vast background in golf, spanning 25 years on Long Island, has solidified his reputation as a formidable teacher and passionate advocate for the sport.

Under his guidance, the Panthers showcased remarkable talent, tying for first place in their inaugural season tournament at the Le Moyne Fall Invitational. Achieving their best score in program history at the NE10 Championships with a commendable second-place finish, Bresnan’s influence was palpable. The subsequent creation and management of Adelphi’s first-ever tournament, the Panther Battle at the Bay in 2023, saw the team clinch first place, with Ilaria Ponziani also making history by becoming the first female golfer to be named NE10 First Team All-Conference.

A proud alumnus of Nassau Community College, where he showcased his golf prowess, Bresnan went on to earn his marketing degree from Mississippi State University. As a seasoned instructor, he has shaped the skills of varied golfers, counting PGA and LPGA Tour winners among them. Bresnan himself is no stranger to competition, having played in Gateway Section PGA events and even qualifying for esteemed tournaments like the Long Island Open in 1998 and the New York State Open in 2007.

The majority of Bresnan’s professional journey was carved out at Colonial Springs Golf Club in Farmingdale, N.Y. His 23-year tenure culminated in his role as the Director of Golf Operations after two fruitful decades as the Head Golf Professional. His leadership skills further extended to serving on the Metropolitan PGA Board of Directors and conducting invaluable golf clinics for local high school students.

Bresnan’s commitment to golf is deeply personal. A PGA Golf professional, he has devoted over 20 years to offering lessons in Long Island, nurturing players of all backgrounds and skill sets. With offerings ranging from private sessions to group clinics and even digital instruction, Bresnan’s passion lies in enhancing every golfer’s potential and love for the sport.
